Joachim Robbrecht werkt als theatermaker, performer en toneelschrijver. Na zijn master Duits cum laude en Engelse literatuur en taalkunde in Gent, studeerde hij Theaterregie aan de Academie voor Theater en Dans (AHK) in Amsterdam. Zijn werk is tekstgebaseerd en discursief, met een satirische toon. Het ontwikkelt zich rond vragen over culturele identiteit, ethische gevoeligheid en historisch bewustzijn.
Robbrechts werk wordt zowel gedreven door de behoefte om poëtisch te reflecteren op thema's van actueel maatschappelijk belang als door het verlangen om te experimenteren met structuren van het vertellen van verhalen en het opbouwen van een wereld, met de instrumenten, codes en conventies van de podiumkunsten, en met manieren van presentatie en representatie. Naast het zelfstandig creëren van voorstellingen, coproduceert en werkt hij als schrijver en performer samen met verschillende theaterregisseurs en producenten in België, Nederland en Duitsland. Sinds 2016 is hij werkzaam als tutor in Das Theater, The Graduate school of Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam.

Joachim Robbrecht works as a theatremaker, performer and playwright. After having earned a master’s degree German cum laude and English literature and linguistics in Ghent, he studied Theatre Directing at the Academy of Theatre and Dance (AHK) in Amsterdam. His work is text-based and discursive, with a satirical tone. It evolves around questions on cultural identity, ethical sensitivity and historical awareness.
Robbrecht’s work is driven as much by the need to poetically reflect upon themes of topical social relevance as by the desire to experiment with structures of story-telling and world-building, with the tools, codes and conventions of performing arts, and with modes of presentation and representation. Besides creating performances independently, he co-produces and collaborates as a writer and performer with various theatre directors and producers in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Since 2016 he is working as tutor in Das Theatre, The Graduate school of Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam.
