IFIF is a secular group ritual in the form of a game that employs chance, dance, and trance to cultivate an ever-shifting group “organism,” where participants navigate the delicate tensions between vulnerability and agency, harmony and dissonance, individualism and collectivity. Born during the pandemic from practices designed to sustain and nurture resilience—an alchemy of hypnosis, tantra, Dom/sub dynamics, emotional attunement, movement, writing, and theatrical experimentation—IFIF turns play into a living structure for exploring consent, imagination, boundaries, transgression, and transformation. Staged in the round, it becomes both a game and a living grid—an open field onto which audiences can project their own visions, finding within the performers’ coordinated struggle reflections of the larger systems that bind and shape our world.
This version of IFIF will be workshopped for one week with a cast of adolescents from DEGASTEN and presented during Beyond the Black Box Festival.
