Virgy’s Boutique by Angyvir Padilla is an intimate performance where the fragmentary nature of memories, identity, and the longing for home come together. Padilla is interested in the physical manifestations of the past and works with the raw qualities of materials, questioning non-linear time structures and even gravity itself. Inspired by her mother’s clothing shop in Caracas, Padilla creates a costume made of plaster, in which traces of touch and fabric remain visible. The delicate plaster objects balance between solidity and fragility, offering a poetic reflection on home, loss, and the tangibility of memories.
The performance is part of What Cannot Be Held, a collection presentation curated by Suzanne Wallinga, featuring works from the Mu.ZEE collection in Ostend. This special work is the first performance acquired by the museum and will be performed for the first time at de Brakke Grond as part of Amsterdam Art Week.
