The Indictment - Le Colloque

In Edgelanders: Amsterdam On Trial, artists Ehsan Fardjadniya and Raul Balai work on an indictment of the municipality of Amsterdam, calling on the city to fulfil its ethical and legal obligations towards undocumented people. This long-running project will culminate in a public trial on 27 October 2025, during Amsterdam's 750th anniversary.

The fifth chapter, The Indictment, will be presented at the Brakke Grond with the installation Les Citoyens Actifs. The symposium Le Colloque is the conclusion of this chapter. All testimonies and insights collected in the month of February and during Festival Beyond the Black Box will be brought together in a joint indictment. This will be done in collaboration with lawyers, undocumented workers and the public.

In Edgelanders: Amsterdam On Trial werken kunstenaars Ehsan Fardjadniya en Raul Balai aan een aanklacht tegen de stad Amsterdam. Ze eisen dat de stad haar ethische en juridische verplichtingen ten opzichte van ongedocumenteerden nakomt. Het project, dat leidt naar een openbaar proces eind oktober 2025 (wanneer de stad haar 750ste verjaardag viert), wordt in verschillende 'hoofdstukken' gepresenteerd.

Het vijfde hoofdstuk, The Indictment, wordt tijdens én na Beyond the Black Box (van 30 jan t/m 2 feb) gepresenteerd in de Brakke Grond. Zo blijft de installatie The Indictment - Les Citoyens Actifs tot 28 februari open voor publiek. Op 28 februari sluiten we af met symposium The Indictment - Le Colloque.

Met de laatste performance The Indictment - Le Colloque worden alle personen die aan de verschillende delen hebben meegewerkt samengebracht op het podium in de vorm van een symposium. Dit theatrale symposium zal leiden tot de aanklacht die in oktober van 2025 in het laatste deel zullen gebruiken voor de people’s tribunal. Het publiek is hierbij uitgenodigd om te participeren. De aanklachten van het publiek uit de performance Les Citoyens Actifs zullen hierin tevens een rol krijgen.

In de maand februari wordt met de installatie The Indictment - Les Citoyens Actifs gewerkt aan dit symposium. Binnen de installatie worden ervaringen van ongedocumenteerden gedeeld, en wordt de bezoeker gevraagd zelf actief mee te denken en schrijven aan de aanklacht. Alle verzamelde getuigenissen en andere inzichten worden samengebracht. Tijdens het symposium Le Colloque zal de aanklacht worden gevormd voor het openbaar proces eind oktober. Dit gebeurt in samenwerking met juristen, ongedocumenteerden en het publiek.

Drs. Jordan Dez – Assistant Professor of Law aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, doet onderzoek naar mensenrechtenclaims van ongedocumenteerde migranten in Europa en de VS.
