Edgelanders: Amsterdam On Trial

In Edgelanders: Amsterdam On Trial, artists Ehsan Fardjadniya and Raul Balai are working on an indictment against the City of Amsterdam. They demand that the city fulfils its ethical and legal obligations towards the undocumented. The project, culminating in a public trial on 27 October 2025 (when the city of Amsterdam will celebrate its 750th anniversary), is presented in a series of ‘chapters’.

The fifth chapter, The Indictment, will be presented during and after Beyond the Black Box at De Brakke Grond. In the White room, tarps (often used as shelters) form the basis of an interactive installation, where the experiences of undocumented people are shared – the uncertainty, lack of knowledge, but also the uplifting encounters and other experiences. You will be invited to actively contribute your thoughts on the indictment, guided by law students.

In Edgelanders: Amsterdam On Trial werken kunstenaars Ehsan Fardjadniya en Raul Balai aan een aanklacht tegen de Gemeente Amsterdam. Ze eisen dat de stad haar ethische en juridische verplichtingen ten opzichte van ongedocumenteerden nakomt. Het project, dat leidt naar een openbaar proces op 27 oktober 2025 (wanneer de stad haar 750ste verjaardag viert), wordt in verschillende 'hoofdstukken' gepresenteerd.

Het vijfde hoofdstuk, The Indictment, wordt tijdens én na Beyond the Black Box gepresenteerd in de Brakke Grond. In de Witte zaal vormen zeilen (vaak gebruikt als schuilplaats) de basis van een interactieve installatie, waarin ervaringen van ongedocumenteerden worden gedeeld - de onzekerheid, de onwetendheid, maar ook de mooie ontmoetingen en andere ondervindingen. Ook word je gevraagd actief mee te denken over de aanklacht, onder begeleiding van rechtenstudenten.

Op het plein staat ook een installatie die gedurende het festival doorlopend te bezoeken is!

Na Beyond the Black Box zijn verschillende werken van Ehsan Fardjadniya en Raul Balai te zien in de Brakke Grond. Van 3 februari t/m 28 februari is de installatie The Indictment - Les Citoyens Actifs te zien in de Witte zaal. Op 28 februari vindt het symposium The Indictment - Le Colloque plaats.
