Party weekend Fier als een gieter: 40 years of the Brakke Grond
Flemish Arts Centre de Brakke Grond is turning 41 and proudly invites you to our weekend-long party Fier als een gieter. From 20 till 22 May, we’ll reflect and celebrate our work so far, but also look forward: in this case with a (long) weekend full of music, theatre, visual arts and everything in between. Old acquaintances and long-standing partners are invited, along with new makers who will give a sneak peek of our upcoming adventures together. Come celebrate with us!
Exploring
The overarching theme of the weekend is dreams for the future. So you’ll find that our Grote zaal has been taken over by a wishing well. This is not just an artwork unto itself, but also sets the scene for the various programme elements in the space. There will also be smaller exhibitions, installations and performances which wouldn’t usually all fit into a singular evening programme. After all, a party can also be an exploration, an adventure, a stimulation of the senses.
The artist takes the lead
De Brakke Grond believes in letting the artist lead, whether they make sculptures, dance or play the synthesizer. With Fier als een gieter we want to give Flemish-based artists the chance to grow and blossom, and introduce themselves to the Netherlands. That’s why we invited someone who moves between the two worlds with ease and is just as comfortable taking to the stage as curating a programme: Laurens Mariën and his collective Nein will give this weekend their signature interdisciplinary touch. You’ll also find performances, installations and other contributions from Christian Bakalov, buren, Dan Mussett en Salomé Mooij.
We hope to see you at our party, with beer, shrimp croquettes and ample opportunity to dance.
