Installation: 019 - Reservoir (Wishing Well)
In 2020, artists’ collective 019 transformed the exhibition hall of Dok-Noord, Ghent – an industrial building formerly used for welding – into a swamp. The immediate cause: breaking open the roof, which was leaking. A combination of natural and artificial precipitation, fed by water from the adjoining canal, led to a damp environment where plants, animals and both water-resistant and water-responsive artworks could flourish. The swamp grew into an evolving ecosystem that is still changing in unpredictable ways now.
The original exhibition Reservoir included works by Helmut Smits (€URR€N€¥ €O¥N $TA€K$, 2018) and Agnieska Curant (Multiverse (minus one dollar), 2012). These works made use of the relationship between water, currency and economics. Inspired by these artworks, 019 created the installation: Reservoir (Wishing Well). This digs deeper into the relationship between the economy and water.
For Fier als een gieter, 019 made a scenography for a contemporary wishing well, which creates opportunities for a potential profitable investment of our currency.
