Artist Nahuel Cano invites you to listen mindfully to rivers. What stories do rivers carry with them? What can we learn from them?
Rivers are particularly complex and dynamic systems: through endless interactions, they shape the landscapes they flow through while simultaneously being shaped by people’s visions, fears, and needs. Rivers are also invaluable economic assets, witnesses and purveyors of history. Cano explored the history and the political and ecological significance of three rivers: the Limay and Salado in Argentina and the Vecht in the Netherlands, interweaving his personal stories connected to them. He translated his insights into music and poetry, culminating in the audiovisual performance Ways to listen to a river, which combines live music, video projection and spoken word.
