In Hands Made, Begüm Erciyas explores our ability to touch. By touching, we distance ourselves from our surroundings or actually create closeness and intimacy. But what happens to touch when new technologies are increasingly reshaping our experiences?
In Hands Made, the spectator’s own hands take centre stage. Separated from the rest of the body, yet in intimate proximity to each other, they form the focus of speculation about the past and future of hands, of handiwork, and of the sense of touch. What have these hands done in the past and what will they do in the future? Who or what will they touch?
Hands Made invites us to rethink our relationship to our hands by depicting their transformation throughout history and their role in a future society.
