BOOKS is the debut of Pak Yan’s sound explorations in materials (wood, metal), objects (toys) and electronics. Pak Yan Lau explores 3 different universes. Book of Wood explores the world of acoustic prepared piano, where the combination of wood, strings and preparations transforms the piano’s conventional sound into a enveloping sound weave. Book of Star explores the electronics, synth and drone world and Book of Toy explores the world of harmonics from metallic tines, chiming up from toy pianos and gong rods. Sound always take a central role in her search, in the passing years, following the release, she has performed it more and more as a mash up of these different universes, becoming a big expanding one, where all elements could take part.
