Malinconico builds an inclusive, magical-realist universe where comfort is sought in a morose landscape, and light is sought in the dark.
Malinconico is a lullaby. A magical dream. A ritual to evoke the voices, moods and forms of melancholy. A shared safe space to experience her universal sombreness, but never to define her; rather, to reflect and experience peace with her. To explore the expansive territories between what was and what could have been.
Malinconico is a proposal for collective care and bearing the many ways in which melancholy makes itself felt.
A moment to escape from the productive, the rational, the rigid. To dive into a sea of desire, beneath a heavy blanket of light sorrow. Perhaps, to unlock doors hidden deep inside.
Malinconico invites melancholy itself to step into the (moon)light so she can comfort us. To take her into our arms, and to take ourselves into our arms, and to take everyone, in one another’s arms, into our arms.
Malinconico creates a queer, crip, magical-realist universe where comfort is sought in a morose landscape and light is sought in the dark.
Please note:The makers see the stage as a creative space, and sorrow is part of this. Highly personal, sensitive topics are discussed including melancholy, depression, discrimination, ableism, racism, sexism and genocide.
