Out The Frame
In cooperation with VIERNULVIER & ALL EYES ON HIP HOP & MELKWEG.
Out The Frame
On 1 April 2023, a satellite edition of the ‘Out The Frame’ festival will take place in Amsterdam. 'Out The Frame' (a production by Belgian arts centre VIERNULVIER and All Eyes On Hip Hop) has been bringing the best of the underground to Ghent every year since 2018, ranging from mutated hip hop to experimental soul.
Out The Frame on 1 April 2023 is a co-production by VIERNULVIER, All Eyes on Hip Hop, De Brakke Grond and Melkweg Amsterdam, and will focus on an exchange of artists across national borders.
Antwerp-based musician Youniss will perform in De Brakke Grond. Delish Da Goddess and Kleine Crack & Slagter will perform in the Melkweg.
Youniss, Delish Da Goddess & Kleine Crack & Slagter are appearing at both Out The Frame Gent and Out The Frame Amsterdam.
Programme
Part of the programme takes place in De Brakke Grond, with the première of Youniss: doors open at 18h30. The programme then continues in the Melkweg with Delish Da Goddess and Kleine Crack & Slagter, starting at 20h30. Doors open at 20h00. The full line-up will be announced soon.
Youniss
On his second record ‘White Space’, musician and visual artist from Antwerp Youniss expresses through punk music his feelings of powerlessness and alienation in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement. As a Black man with an Arabic name, he feels as an artist that he is often seen as an intruder in the predominately white, western world. ‘White Space’ arose from the pain that accompanies this. How does that sound? Something like the love child of Dean Blunt and Death Grips.
The record is out on 8 March on VIERNULVIER Records (pre-order from VIERNULVIER Records Basecamp), and this is being celebrated with an album release show at OUT THE FRAME!
The costumes for the live performances were designed by Ridah Habib Allah.
SUZOOKI SWIFT
Who is Suzooki Swift? Crossing boundaries of reality and fiction, rapper-producer Suzooki Swift explores alternative ways of being in music: dangerous, elusive and unapologetic. Consisting of hard beats and lyrical madness, her self-titled debut EP was specifically engineered to make you feel invincible. Come join the party and let loose - you don’t want to miss this.
Delish Da Goddess
Delish Da Goddess was crowned “leader of New Orleans' DIY hip-hop movement" by OffBeat Magazine. With 7 EPs and a unique live reputation, she is one of the major sources of creative inspiration for Louisiana's hip hop scene. This is how New York magazine Fader described her: “She gets her crowds moving and then hits them with jarringly upfront bars, infusing lo-fi trap beats with the energy of the queer bounce movement that put New Orleans hip-hop back on the map post-Wayne.” This brought her the ‘Best Rap and Bounce’ award at the Big Easy Awards in 2018 (the American city of New Orleans is known as ‘The Big Easy’).
Her 7th EP ‘Violet’ in particular – named after the town where she grew up – was appreciated by wider audiences. She has previously shared a stage with Peaches, Le1f, Big Freedia and Sophie, and appeared in Diplo’s web series ‘Blow Your Head’.
Kleine Crack & Slagter
Kleine Crack is the only Belgian artist on Burning Fik, the label owned by Faberyayo and Abel. Together with regular producer Slagter, the cult rapper makes menacing hip hop set to heavy beats. In their hometown ANNA (Antwerp), they have been performing for years with their collective VHS. Since signing for Burning Fik – through which Faberyayo has expressed a desire to return to “a legitimate underground” – they are now also smashing down the doors to the Dutch scene. Frenzied raps and hellish energy: get ready for a lot of love and a lot of hate!
Cheyanne Hudson
Cheyanne fell In love with hiphop at a young age and is heavily involved in the Dutch hiphop community. During the lockdowns Cheyanne got introduced to techno and its community at illegal parties. Inspired by the techno scene she started digging up music that could bridge the gap between hiphop, techno and its communities. That's why her sound is characterized by a mix of the hardest Trap beats, the smoothest hiphop and electronic sounds like Jungle, House, Techno and Breaks. The vision for bridging the gap between sounds can also be found in her own club night in Rotterdam “Create and Destroy”. Having done successful shows at Vandalised ADE and Pretty Girls Like Trap Music Cheyanne is ready to blast her vision through the speakers.
