Grasnapolsky
Porcelain id, Vieze Meisje & BLUAI will take to the stage during Grasnapolsky 2023, a festival chock full of art & music.
The tenth edition of Grasnapolsky takes place on 10, 11 and 12 March in former strawboard factory de Toekomst in Scheemda. Grasnapolsky is a weekend of music and art at an exceptional location. The festival seeks to strike a healthy balance between more familiar artists and new discoveries. Grasnapolsky takes nothing for granted, and adventure is guaranteed.
Grasnapolsky has been working with De Brakke Grond since 2019. Together, we have programmed many Flemish acts, who effortlessly bridge the distance between Groningen and Flanders. Artists we have seen perform in the factory through this collaboration to date include Charlotte Adigéry, Chibi Ichigo and Willy Organ. This year, we present four-strong dreamy indie pop band BLUAI; the fragile folk of Porcelain id and hip hop/electro sensation Vieze Meisje.

Porcelain id
When Porcelain id sing “You loved Flanders, but Flanders didn’t love you”, entire lives flash before your mind’s eye. Hubert Tuyishime from Rwanda doesn’t need much to create an effective portrait. They sing about the queer community, the homeless, the marginalized of Flanders, and beyond. Inverted, impassioned chansons, often accompanied only by piano, acoustic guitar and boundless silence as an instrument – as convincingly contrary as Mirah and Moses Sumney, for example.
BLUAI
How was your year? Not as good as BLUAI’s, we’re willing to bet. This band from Antwerp around Catherine Smet won Belgium’s three biggest music awards – the Nieuwe Lichting, Humo’s Rock Rally and vi.be’s Sound Track – and this is before they’ve even released a debut album. They certainly seem to be on the right track with their hybrid form of dreamy folk and bittersweet indie rock in the spirit of Belly and Sleater-Kinney. A BLUAI show is like a road trip: arm out of the window, gliding through the bends in a car full of friends.
Vieze Meisje
Step into the vicious circle, dive into Vieze Meisje’s deconstructed club night. The alter ego of Flemish singer Maya Mertens is as romantic as it is rebellious, as straightforward as it is mysterious. The bare, cut-up beats from regular producer Azertyklavierwerke lift us well out of our comfort zone – until we start yelling along with Mertens’ drop: “Displace me, displace me!”, and the dirty circle spontaneously combusts.
