In SPARE TIME WORK buren musically approaches thoughts and ideas on (reproductive) labour and leisure. They explore class and growth with the help of characters like Adult Hood and Young, Cleaner, Grown Woman and Office Worker. Drenched in different colour spheres they investigate a variety of (power)relations, economical desires and social realities. All while being surrounded by the inner and outer voices of (personal) histories and radio, internet and television. In what way is our ‘day and age’ telling us what to be, where to stand and what to do? Who is carrying the dogma, codes, laws and what systems are at work?

In SPARE TIME WORK benadert collectief buren op muzikale, speels-kritische wijze gedachten en ideeën over de verhouding tussen arbeid (in huis en buitenshuis) en vrije tijd. Dit met de hulp van vijf kleurrijke karakters – Young, Adult Hood, Grown Woman, Office Worker en Cleaner – elk in verschillende levensfasen en sferen. In deze afwisselende performance met verrassende teksten op uiteenlopende muziek onderzoekt het duo het (zelf) opgelegde regime van 24/7 ‘aan’ staan, machts- en liefdesrelaties, verlangens en lastige keuzes die onze samenleving voorschotelt. Wat wil je later worden? Waar liggen jouw grenzen? Wie vertelt ons wat te doen?
