This year, the annual DocLab conference takes the shape of a series of live events with artist talks and performances around a specific theme. DocLab Live: Liminal Systems explores the structures that control our lives—from climate to colonialism, from neoliberalism to artificial intelligence. Can interactive artists offer alternative insights into the big questions of our times?
Messages to a Post Human Earth by May Abdalla reimagines our relationship with the natural world, while VR-film Water & Coltan by Daniel Kötter reveals humanity’s ruthless exploitation of both the Earth and itself. With One-Fifth of the Earth’s Surface Ghanaian artist Hakeem Adam explores oceans as influential to power structures. There will be a live demo of the AR-piece Museum of Austerity, which shows what happens when state safety nets fail. And Artist Sue Roh will introduce us to to the personal world of our digital gurus Siri and Alexa.
