This year, the annual DocLab conference takes the shape of a series of live magazine events with artist talks and performances around a specific theme. DocLab Live: Gaming Reality is created in collaboration with immersive media artists Anagram and explores the world of gaming, its seductive beauty and the twilight zones of reality it has brought us.
The evening includes a special performance of Anagram’s award-winning VR project Goliath: Playing with Reality, presented live from inside the digital reality of its protagonist. Other artists and projects from the DocLab program presented this evening include the indiegame Gates of Aleppo by the Syrian artist Wolfswift and Austrian Game Studio Causa Creations and Diagnosia, a VR documentary in which artist Mengtai Zhang takes us inside Chinese internment camps where young people are treated for “internet addiction”. Finally, Alexandra Barancová and Moniker will present Disarmed, a delightfully playful artistic research project that aims to reimagine our human bodies inside virtual reality and video games. The event is followed by informal network drinks at the Brakke Grond Cafe.
