Salomé’s Dance of the Seven Veils has sent generations reeling. Throughout the ages, Oscar Wilde’s femme fatale who also inspired Richard Strauss for his shocking opera, caused a lot of stir. In Dance of the Seven Veils, director Aïda Gabriëls invites musicians Colin H. Van Eeckhout (CHVE, Amenra), Pieter-Jan Van Assche (Innerwoud) and soprano Astrid Stockman to fiddle with the deeply human figure of Salomé. Within a theatrical total work of art, dancer German Jauregui immerses into their ecstatic soundscape, surrendering to the primal forces and fears of the female icon sculptor Rui Barros manipulates and gets manipulated by.

Een broeierige opera rondom Bijbelse prinses en femme fatale Salomé, met o.a. Astrid Stockman en Colin H. Van Eeckhout.

Met haar beruchte sluierdans brengt de Bijbelse prinses Salomé ons al eeuwen het hoofd op hol. Oscar Wilde’s femme fatale, waarop ook Richard Strauss zich baseerde voor zijn controversiële opera, deed reeds heel wat stof opwaaien. In Dance of the Seven Veils brengt regisseur Aïda Gabriëls sopraan Astrid Stockman en muzikanten Colin H. van Eeckhout (CHVE, Amenra) en Pieter-Jan Van Assche (Innerwoud) bijeen voor een broeierig banket dat Salomé’s diepmenselijke spel van verhulling en onthulling opnieuw in kaart brengt. Opgezweept door een extatische soundtrack werpt danser German Jauregui zich ten prooi aan de brute oerkrachten, driften en angsten die niet alleen dit ultieme vrouwelijke icoon, maar ook beeldhouwer Rui Barros lijken te beheersen.
