Kunstenaar/filmmaker Basma al-Sharif, staatloos geboren en van Palestijnse afkomst, onderzoekt cyclische politieke geschiedenissen en conflicten. In films en installaties die zich heen en weer bewegen in de geschiedenis, tussen plaats en niet-plaats, confronteert ze de erfenis van het kolonialisme door middel van satirische, meeslepende en lyrische werken.

Ze behaalde een MFA aan de Universiteit van Illinois, Chicago in 2007, was inwoner van de Fondazione Antonio Ratti in 2009 en het Pavillon Neuflize OBC in het Palais de Tokyo in 2014-2015. Ze ontving een juryprijs op de Sharjah Biënnale in 2009, kreeg een Visual Arts Grant van de Fundación Botín in 2010, Mophradat's Consortium Commissions in 2018, ze was fellow van het Berlin Artistic Research Grant Program voor 2022-2023, en is genomineerd voor de Prix Aware voor 2024.

Born stateless and of Palestinian heritage, artist/filmmaker Basma al-Sharif explores cyclical political histories and conflicts.
