Touchscape: Camping Beyond Reasoning is an immersive installation that explores the boundaries of touch and sensory perception. In this experience, each participant, blindfolded and guided by a rope, embarks on a one-on-one tactile journey through a variety of transformed objects and materials at their own pace.
As participants enter the space, they are invited to let go of reasoning and encounter different forms of communication and connection through touch.
This collaborative project is an interdisciplinary continuation of research initially ideated by Mahsa Koochak. It examines the concept of embodiment, its political implications, and our modes of relating to one another. Through tactility and nonverbal communication, we want to challenge dominant modes of perception, asking: How do we find orientation through touch? How do we connect beyond sight?
For this edition of Touchscape at Beyond the Black Box Festival, Mahsa has invited Christiana Tsigkou as a second host for the presentation days.
Trigger Warning:
This work asks that you navigate it, sometimes standing, sometimes sitting on the floor or crawling on your knees while blindfolded. One person of our group will be present in the space to make sure you feel safe.
In case you feel like you have to leave the experience, just lift your arm and one of us will guide you out.
For a better experience, wear comfortable shoes.
