In While we are here, Lisa Vereertbrugghen explores the timeless desire to dance strongly, together. A wide-open, free hybridization of techno and popular dances.
Raves have happened through the ages – people coming together to dance frenetically, looking for a kind of free dance, a form of trance which never ends. So in While we are here, Lisa Vereertbrugghen explores the timeless appeal of dancing strongly and collectively. To that end she has invited the dancers Claire Godsmark, Dolores Hulan, Eimi Leggett and Castélie Yalombo Lilonge to build a parallel between a hardcore rave and folk dances which celebrate joy, community and fun. With neither nostalgia nor a pre-set vision of the future, the group creates a hybrid techno-folk style of dance which is by definition free of all control, celebrating their collective physicality.
